3 Quick Things … Random Updates, POE & Daddy Talk

1. Random Thoughts …

In the middle of writing this post, I went down to pick up dinner. Now, near my office there’s two kinds of eating places. There’s the ordinary working man “Food Court”. And there’s a Ah-Beng “Food Centre”

I didn’t really know the difference in names until someone pointed out to me, but I guess its kinda true. I never see any Construction workers in the “Food Court”. And I see much fewer working people at the Ah Beng place.

Of course (as irony would have it), the food at the ah beng centre is much better! Even though it smells like crap. And it’s a much longer walk from my office. So, I appease my stomach by walking there around 6PM each night.

Usually, my favourite food there (a biriyani stall) runs out of biriyani by the time I get there. But today, they had biriyani – lots of it!

And since I had some great food, I decided to celebrate by stopping by a new fruit juice place. Woah, their juice is so much nicer! Not only do they make the juice first, they even blend it with the ice afterwards … smooth and delicious. So, I rewarded them by buying some food fruits for my late evening snack.

And on my walk back, I also walked into a speeding van. But the guy actually apologized to me – even though it was half my fault. Aaah, the universe is bending to my will now. I wonder how I can feel good for no good reason :D

2. POE Begins Tomorrow – I’m Getting Rrrrready To Rumble ….

POE begins tomorrow … so I’m going to be out of commission for 4 days coaching bright new minds and helping them achieve new heights of personal happiness with my unique mix of NLP, Hypnosis and Happiness Strategies.

Or something like that :P

Anyway, I’m going crazy preparing for it. Here’re some of the things I gotto finish in the next 24 hours so I can coach in peace …

  • Write 6 articles for the next 14 days for my book’s prospects
  • Write 2 more blog entries for SEO for
  • Complete the redesign of … it’s almost done, I just have to finish writing some of static pages & sidebar widgets
  • Keep talking to Google about becoming a certified specialist at Google Website Optimizer (I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now, and it’s totally awesome!)
  • Keep in touch with Acronym and push to finalize details of our working arrangement (I’m so excited! It’s such a cool company, and they’re expanding into asia … I think I can add a lot of value by working with them)
  • Keep in touch with Pic2Color (Have to wait for approval from their board for beginning a really exciting new project … these guys really think out of the box … they should’ve been based in Mountain View, not Singapore)
  • Upload all my old white papers onto (I’ve written so many white papers about so many things … but nobody’s even seen them yet! I’m gonna push them out and create some good will for myself)
  • Finalize the next Toasmasters meeting date with Dave & Ming.
  • Write the Table Of Contents for my next book (Hint, it’s about understanding your website visitors and the easiest way of testing different portions of your website).

Phew! That’s a lot to do in 24 hours right? Well, I’m making a public commitment on my blog … I’ll get this stuff done by tomorrow. So that when I walk into AKLTG tomorrow … I can be a coach who “walks the walk” and does what he preaches.

3. Oh yeah, My Dad and The Title Of This Post

As some of my toastmasters friends know, my dad is like the most supportive guy on my team. He’s been pushing me to go for my dreams for a long time, even if it means sacrificing comfort and stability for the moment.

But last week, he also had a hint of doubt in his mind. I had borrowed money from my cousin big brother to sail through the tax season … and maybe it freaked my dad a little bit that I didn’t borrow from him.

Then we had a long long discussion over the phone (After a long day of work, I usually don’t tell my parents all the projects I’m doing … Unfortunately, this makes them think that I’m more lost than I actually am!).

Anyway, rather than type out a long post … I’m just gonna include snippets of some of our email conversations over the past few months … they inspire me :)

Papa: Rachit, It is a coincidence that I received this link today and had also seen your candid blog and the widespread response to it. Always remember that you have a safety net, so you can take risks and go for your dream. Ditto to Richa, if she knows what her dream is…

Here’s a link for you … I think you’ll enjoy it (Yes, I really did dad!)

Papa: Rachit, send me your account info. I’ll transfer the money to [big brother]

Rachit: Hey Papa, Hold on for a little white. I think I can manage without the cash.

Papa: OK. Don’t deplete your buffer completely. BTW, another dad (surname with B) gifted his son a Bentley on his 31st b’day last week :-)

If you’re curious, the other rich dad is Amitabh Bacchan, India’s biggest movie star. And his son is the hottest new thing. Read more here.

(After a long discussion about happiness, goals & the drive to succeed)

Papa: Dear Rachit, We are on the same page except that I talk theory and you live it. Also you are able to articulate it so poetically. Continue to be steadfast in your goals, learn through the lows and enjoy and be humble through your highs !! Luv, Papa

All of this stuff made me remember one of my favourite quotes. I saw it in the movie “Coach Carter” and I shared it this Monday with my friends from Toastmasters. Everytime I feel like I need to take it easy or fall back to the “normal life” … I read this quote … I hope you like it.

Marianne Williamson – Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that
is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others.

Rachit’s Note – Go on. Dare to be extraordinary. You
have my permission.
